Kelly Mooney is the founder and artist behind Moonlit Art Studio. Working in her hometown of Calgary, Alberta, Kelly creates art pieces of all kinds. Currently, she is working on vibrant, large scale acrylic paintings that are inspired by Canadian landscapes with texture you can actually feel. Keeping your eye moving is the main goal in any piece she does.
Growing up, Kelly was drawing as soon as she could hold a pencil. Her skills at a young age led her parents to enrol her in private art lessons from an incredibly awe-inspiring woman, Deborah MacIntosh, which lasted for 13 years. These years of training focused on producing photo-realism pieces captured by chalk pastel on suede. Two of these pieces were entered into the Calgary Stampede Western Showcase, which led to multiple awards. Firstly, at age 11, Kelly was awarded First Place in her category. (She even had to lie about her age to enter..oops!) Two and a half years later at age 13, Kelly took home First Place as well as Grand Overall Champion for the entire Western Showcase, with the portrait of an Appaloosa horse.
Living in Calgary, Alberta and growing up spending her summers at the stunning Shuswap Lake in British Columbia, Kelly has always had a deep appreciation for the prairies, mountains, lakes, and skies of western Canada. Recently, she has reflected this passion through landscape pieces using texture and vivid colour to showcase these beautiful features of our land. Though she was trained in realism, Kelly now applies her understanding of composition and colour theory to create art of various styles which she hopes will inspire you and add a sense of spirited wonder into your life!
When she's not painting, you can find Kelly listening to classic rock, baking, or spending time by the river with her partner Mike and fur-baby Bobby.
